Who's Order
In 2014, the team "UNMASK" I had worked with for 12 years disbanded, which forced me to start looking for my own way. I moved to a studio in the suburbs and needed a lot of time every year to prune the plants in my backyard, so I started making some sculptures using pruned branches combined with Chinese paper. The genes of different plants determine their own order. My work is more like secondary editing. This process is slow but healing. Bamboo is a typical example of that time in Beijing.
In 2020, due to Civid-19, we unexpectedly settled in South Carolina, US. There are two giant magnolia trees in the front and backyard. This is a very common tree species in the south. Its cycle of four seasons throughout the year has become a part of our lives.
